Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre is a registered charity led by a team of local volunteers and professionals. We promote easy access to the local countryside and are passionate that people of all ages and abilities can learn, develop new skills and enjoy our  beautiful surroundings, come rain or shine!

Our mission statement:

“To develop a centre for lifelong learning; creating opportunities for local and wider communities to achieve, develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in the beautiful environment in which we live”.

Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre was originally set up as a charity to promote outdoor learning. Many people enjoyed the fact that the space remained in community use after the former Visitor Centre was successfully saved from being sold. We had hoped that schools using the space for outdoor learning activities would form the basis for the business, alongside bookings from community artists and local residents. However, despite our efforts, it became increasingly difficult to encourage enough bookings to make the centre financially viable.

Maxine Pigram approached us with the idea of using the building as an Arts and Craft Centre. We saw this as a great opportunity to keep the building running. As well as creative exhibits including wildlife photography, wood carving, jewellery, textiles, paintings and stained glass, she helps us to continue to promote outside nature activities such as pond dipping and bug hotel inspection for the children. We have nets and magnifying glasses, leaflets and information for local walkers. Maxine is also hoping to hold textile, painting, sewing and card making workshops for the community.

In addition to the above, Lymefield Outdoor learning Centre also runs other activities such as: the Little Grasshoppers group which meets every Monday morning in the grounds outside. We also host the annual Morris Men event in June.

Both Maxine and the Trustees of Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre are hoping the space will continue to be enjoyed by the whole community. So, over the changing seasons, why not drop into the Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre or contact us on info@lymefieldcentre.org.uk
