In the community

We’ve made some great friends over the past year…

We want to support our community by keeping the Outdoor Learning Centre open and available to the public. The building is currently home to Lymefield Arts & Crafts which welcomes all visitors and provides information about local walks and gives opportunities to learn through courses organised by Maxine. In the grounds, the Little Grasshoppers meet weekly with their Level 3 Forest School Leader.

“My daughter and I love going to Little Grasshoppers. Each week we always do something new such as collecting leaves for a collage. And she loves singing!”

“I am delighted to have found this spot in the village, as I grew up here and my family still lives here. I’ve been looking for somewhere suitable to show my own work, and bring together the wealth of creative talent there is in this area and so Lymefield is ideal. I am hoping to hold textile, painting, sewing and card making classes for the community. I am open to any creative ideas.”

“I had an exhibition of prints and cards over a weekend. A lot of people came and it was a big success. Jane and her team prepared the room and there was plenty of wall space for my prints and tables for my cards. All shows that the centre is multi-purpose and I hope to organise more events there.”

“As students at MMU we are strongly encouraged to look at pedagogy surrounding outdoor learning. We contacted Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre for information on a presentation we were doing that related to outdoor learning. I had previously been on a trip to the centre with a reception class and was very impressed. I knew it would fit into our presentation perfectly. We were introduced to Rose Joyce, Chair of Trustees at the centre who has a background in teaching and outdoor learning consultancy. She was a fountain of knowledge regarding outside learning. Rose was more than willing to help in any way she could and her passion for outdoor learning inspired us to research the Swedish Skogmulle pedagogy and include it in our presentation. Myself and the other students would highly recommend other schools, universities and teachers to access the resources available at the centre where there are endless possibilities for learning.”

“My daughter attended the Art Attack sessions at Lymefield Outdoor Centre in the summer. What a fantastic resource to have on one’s doorstep! The sessions were great fun, combining crafts and art with nature and the environment. It’s so important for children to learn about their surroundings at an early age and to make use of the simple things around us. The course was well run and the facilities were inviting and clean.”

“ We have used Lymefield Outdoor Education centre for Holiday Schools, Saturday Clubs, Birthdays and Corporate Team Building events. It is ideal for our needs as the location is in the middle of some great outdoor areas. The centre itself is modern and can cater to our varying demands. We are proud to use and support this great resource”.
Manager, Rock Apes
“Lymefield Outdoor Centre was an ideal setting as it allowed us to really connect with the local environment and a range of wildlife including a friendly squirrel and a beautiful woodpecker that the children really enjoyed watching and finding out more about when we returned to Pre-School. We also had lots of fun looking for bugs in the bug hotel and we always like playing in the Maze.”
Manager, Broadbottom Pre-school
“Our Beaver and Cub Scouts have loved the sessions down at Lymefield learning about our local habitat as well as new outdoor skills. A particular favourite is shelter and den building. And the camp in September 2014 was perfect for our first ever nights away badge!”
Leader, Beavers
“I used the Lymefield Outdoor Learning Centre as a venue for my daughter’s 6th birthday party. It is a lovely space to use. The children really enjoyed making full use of the outside space including the maze and for the parents there is a kitchen to prepare the food and make drinks. Jane is very helpful for any problems in the day. Highly recommended!”

“I held my workshop “My purpose, my direction, my goals” at the Lymefield Outdoor learning Centre. The team was very helpful and friendly. The venue provided a positive environment for asking thought- provoking questions, listening deeply and helping my clients find solutions.”

I have found all we have done at Skogmulle for the under five’s training very useful. Lots of ideas that I can use with the children I teach at Broadbottom Primary School.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the Wildlife Club my daughter Emily has been to for the past couple days, she’s had a fantastic time! So thank you very much.

How lovely to have met such a special bunch of folk down in Englandshire from various far flung places. Huge appreciation to all the wonderful team who organised and slaved away to look after us all and to the generous Swedish team who led our workshops, a very warm and heartfelt thanks. Let outdoor learning through play continue!
